HCA Internship

Summer Internship at The Healthcare Corporation of America
Company and Role
- I joined HCA Healthcare as a summer intern through the HCA Summer Pathways program
- The 12-week program ran from May through August and combined role-specific professional development with hands-on technical experience. It concluded with a final presentation highlighting each intern’s project, methodology, and results.
- I worked with the Accelerated Technologies iCORE team, which focuses on developing machine learning models to support the detection of kidney failure and sepsis in patients undergoing arthroplasty procedures.
Key Contributions
- My primary project involved using the iCORE database to develop a machine learning model that predicted patient-reported pain scores following arthroplasty surgery.
- I collaborated directly with physicians and data analysts at the Southern Joint Replacement Institute to identify clinically relevant features, refine the model, and evaluate its performance using real-world patient data.
- At the conclusion of the program, I presented my research, development process, and findings to fellow interns and a broader HCA audience.
